NDA’s Commanding Victory
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP and JD(U), registered a massive win in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Election, securing 202 out of 243 seats in the legislative assembly. Nitish Kumar is set to return as Chief Minister for his fifth term, achieving the status of Bihar’s longest-serving CM.
Party-wise Seat Distribution
NDA Bloc
- BJP: 89 seats
- JD(U): 85 seats
- Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas): 19 seats
- Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular): 5 seats
Rashtriya Lok Morcha: 4 seats
Opposition (Mahagathbandhan and Others)
- RJD: 25 seats
- Congress: 6 seats
- CPI(ML) Liberation: 2 seats
- AIMIM: 5 seats
- BSP: 1 seat
- Others/Miscellaneous: 4 seats
The opposition, especially the RJD, suffered a significant blow, failing to cross even 50 seats, while the NDA’s dominance made the outcome almost a no-contest within the first two hours of counting.
Congratulations to my friend PM @narendramodi, @NitishKumar, and the @BJP4India - NDA alliance on a big victory in Bihar! Overjoyed for little sister @maithilithakur on her victory! Women voters in Bihar are the stars of this election! It’s simple: the PM is the only proven leader who can deliver more jobs, institute economic equality, uplift migrant communities, and empower women. I back winners and the arithmetic will always favor #PMModi. God bless you all. 🇺🇸🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/9DGqo22uuf

Who Won by How Many Seats and Margins?
The NDA outperformed the Mahagathbandhan by a margin of over 150 seats (NDA: 202, RJD alliance: 35).
Some constituencies saw very close contests: for example, the JD(U) candidate Radha Charan Sah won Sandesh by just 27 votes, one of the lowest margins this year. Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav (RJD leader) won Raghopur by over 11,000 votes.
The NDA’s massive and historic victory in Bihar reflects the people’s continued confidence in its ability to deliver progressive governance and in Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision for a Viksit Bharat. Heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend Sri Nitish Kumar ji and all the winners from @BJP4India and @JduOnline on this remarkable victory. @narendramodi @NitishKumar pic.twitter.com/xyz123

Maithili Thakur’s Landmark Win
Renowned singer Maithili Thakur made her debut as a BJP candidate and won the Alinagar seat, becoming the youngest MLA at the age of 25.
Maithili Thakur’s popularity as a cultural icon and her clean image reportedly contributed largely to her victory. She secured a margin of over 22,000 votes against her rivals, a remarkable feat for a first-time contestant. This victory is being seen as a symbolic moment for Bihar’s youth and is set to raise her profile as a political leader in the state.

Election Atmosphere and Ongoing Protests
The overall mood in Bihar following the results is tense and politically charged, with much of the opposition voicing discontent over the NDA’s landslide victory. There have been allegations of vote rigging and calls for “Nepal-Bangladesh style” protests from RJD supporters, particularly in urban centers like Patna and in front of election offices.
RJD leaders claim that high voter turnout was initially expected to cause a shift in power, yet the NDA sweep has led to accusations of electoral irregularities and threats of large-scale civil protests. FIRs have been registered against some RJD leaders for making provocative statements, and security has been tightened in election-sensitive areas.
I appeal to @RahulGandhi ji to bring the people of #Bihar out on the streets today and give a call for nationwide protests against the rigging in the #BiharElections.

Civil society members and opposition party supporters are staging protests demanding transparency in the vote-counting process, echoing broader dissatisfaction with the outcome and highlighting pre-existing issues related to population registry revisions and voter roll controversies.
Who Are Protesting and Why?
- RJD and allied party workers: Alleging “vote chori” (vote theft) and demanding recounts in certain constituencies.
- Civil society groups: Demanding transparency and fairness in the electoral process, referencing recent controversies over reduced voter lists and alleged exclusionary practices.
Security forces have been deployed proactively to prevent escalation, but the social climate remains volatile, particularly in RJD strongholds and constituencies with close results.
If this doesn’t qualify as #VoteChori, then what does?
