Early Monday morning, the RTC bus—on its regular route from Tandur to Chevella—was carrying 40 passengers when disaster struck on the Bijapur highway. Chevella ACP B Kishan confirmed that 16 people, including the truck driver, died immediately at the scene, and the toll soon rose to 20 as more succumbed to their injuries. The collision’s aftermath was horrifying, with mangled vehicles and a massive rescue operation underway to extract the injured and deceased from the wreckage.

He ordered the Chief Secretary and DGP to intensify evacuation of the injured, ensuring they received the best possible treatment at Hyderabad’s Gandhi and Osmania hospitals. Ministers and top district officials were told to supervise relief operations personally and to ensure all necessary medical personnel and ambulances were deployed.

IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, among other senior leaders, expressed anguish and took charge of the situation by directly alerting local authorities, the district collector, and senior health officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the tragic loss, announcing financial support: ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
